Video Transcript: Hi Guys, I need your input. I’m working on a project for the Gay Coaches Alliance, - this is a professional organization with about 100 members mostly from across the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. I’m writing an article with the intention of contributing to the body of knowledge for professional coaches in service to the gay community.
I’ve been talking with friends to see if there really are special considerations or issues in working with clients in the LGBTQ community, and with gay men in particular.
I have my own thoughts, but I don’t know for sure. I suspect that, as diverse as we are, we share some experiences especially around acceptance and therefore safety in our own families, schools, churches, communities, and workplaces. I’d like to know more about how coaches can increase efficacy when working with us as clients. Can we help gay clients be more open and safer to do deeper and bigger work more quickly and easily than we have in the past? Would it help if coaches have some special training in issues that are common with gay clients? And, if so, what are those issues? And what needs to be known?
I’m starting my search for answers and for more questions, by offering free sessions for a sample group of gay male clients in exchange for feedback and input. Where we go from there, I’m excited to find out when we get there. My sessions with you will be very different from traditional coaching models, and typically last from 60-90 minutes and are done by phone, or by Zoom for international clients.
My calendar is online, so you’ll be able to be in charge of your own schedule, but you must promise to help me with your feedback. You’ll be doing sessions directly with me, or another highly qualified research partner. I realize I don’t want my own bias to get in the way of our learning, so I will have a partner do some sessions for us, too.
If you want to help and get some really good work done, complete the application below to get started.
Please note that because of the techniques used, we cannot work with you if you have a serious mental health diagnosis such as bipolar disorder, severe depression, chronic suicidal ideation, psychosis, or schizophrenia.
I normally charge $375 for a single session, and I don’t always have a lot of availability. There will be no cost to participants, and it’s a pretty small pilot project. So, apply now before it’s full. I hope we can work together.
